NEP 2020 and the new report card: getting ready for competency-based assessment

The National Education Policy has quietly rewritten what a report card is. The Holistic Progress Card (HPC) that boards are rolling out is no longer a grid of subjects and marks - it captures competencies, self-assessment, peer feedback and teacher observation across the whole child.
For most schools the problem is not pedagogy - it is that their software physically cannot produce the new format. A report-card engine built for 'subject + marks + total' has nowhere to put a rubric, a skill descriptor or a self-assessment response.
What to check before the next exam cycle:
1. Can the system store assessment as competencies and rubrics, not just numbers?
2. Can teachers record descriptive observations against each child through the term, not in one panic before results?
3. Can the report card layout be changed to match your board's HPC format without paying a developer each time the format is revised?
4. Does it still produce the traditional marksheet for the boards that still want one?
Competency-based assessment is more work to record and far more useful to read - but only if the software is designed for it. This is the single biggest academic change we are helping schools adapt to right now.
